The Most Important Thing YOU Can Do to Stop Climate Change

When it comes to climate action, I've heard that individual change can only go so far. I'll admit it: that's very true. The most consequential changes will be made by politicians and business leaders. But what if we could have a say in those consequential decisions? Well, at least in democracies, you can. It's by voting.

Wait a minute! EarthPlex's posts are guided towards teens, and in most countries, the majority of teenagers cannot vote. I'm fourteen, and I can't. If you're below your country's voting age, it doesn't hurt to research the candidates, their values, economic policies, and as we'll discuss in this post, their environmental policies. If you live in the United States, we made this job easier for you by analyzing the environmental policies and past experiences of both major-ballot presidential candidates, the 2020 Green Party candidate, and Kamala Harris. You can read these analyses in the links at the bottom of this post. Once you've made an informed decision, tell somebody who is eligible to vote why you agree with your candidate of choice. Also, you can share this post with somebody who can vote.

If you are eligible to vote, you should also look into the experience and policies of each candidate. I won't make you read my posts about all the candidates for you to find out EarthPlex's choice; EarthPlex endorses Joe Biden and Kamala Harris strictly looking at environmental experience and policies. However, it's up to you to make the best decision.

How does voting benefit the planet? If you vote for candidates that care about Earth, you are helping them take office. Once they're in power, they have control over the future of the planet, so you can leave it to them to apply policies to help manage the climate crisis we currently live in.

If you're eligible to vote, I urge you to do your homework and make informed decisions that will better eco-systems, our planet, and all of humanity. Again, if you're not able to vote, share this with someone who is.
