I Stopped Eating Red Meat: Five Month Update

2 minute read

On July 16, 2020, I decided that I would no longer eat red meat; only on special occasions. Red meat is primarily found in mammals such as cows and lambs. I quit eating red meat because of the potential health benefits, ethical reasons, and - of course - reducing my diet's carbon footprint. Now that it's 5 months (I'm writing this on Thanksgiving), I have a better understanding of how this has impacted my body.

Since I began this challenge, I have only eaten red meat about two or three times. I divided my last update (linked at the end of this post) into two sections: health and cravings. I reflected on how I felt without eating red meat along with my desire - or lack thereof - to stuff myself with steak or roast beef. If you don't feel like reading this entire post (I have a short attention span so I understand), I feel just fine and I rarely crave red meat.

Health

In terms of how I physically feel, I have noticed zero difference from when I often ate beef to now. I feel healthy and have energy. Since I began this challenge, I haven't noticed a change in my health. I'm going to keep this section brief because I really don't have much to say.

Beef Cravings?

No. I hardly ever crave red meat. This was my main concern when I started doing this, but I'm not concerned anymore. I'd think that I would crave red meat after only eating it a couple times in 5 months, but that certainly wasn't the case. I can't think of any specific times when I craved meat, but I would guess that it was less than five. If you are concerned that limiting food from your diet will cause you to crave it, I can tell you that that wasn't the case in my experience.

Final Thoughts

The last two sections of my previous update discussed my plans for the future and what EarthPlex readers can do. I plan to continue with this, and I would recommend this to anyone unless their health requires them to eat red meat. Limiting meat is very important to helping our planet, and we have a bunch of posts about red meat on this site.
