The Best YouTube Channels for Climate Education

I watch a lot of YouTube like most teenagers do. While many people waste their time watching PewDiePie and Logan Paul, I try to learn as much as I can on the video platform. I watch a lot of videos about our planet, so I compiled a list of some of the best channels to learn about climate change.

Our Changing Climate

Our Changing Climate is perhaps the most well-known YouTube channel that focuses entirely on climate and the environment. The channel posts biweekly videos covering topics such as consumerism and potential solutions to the climate crisis. I strongly recommend this channel for anybody who wants to know how our lives affect the Earth.

Hot Mess

Hot Mess is a PBS Digital Studios channel that covers a variety of topics related to climate change. They cover the basics of climate science in an easy-to-understand way. This channel is best for curious viewers who want to know the fundamentals of climate change.

It's Okay To Be Smart

It's Okay To Be Smart is a PBS Digital Studios series as well. Unlike Hot Mess, the channel focuses on science in general with some videos related to climate science. Their videos on climate change are informative, and their videos on other topics including evolution are especially interesting as well. Joe Hanson hosts It's Okay To Be Smart; he's a host on Hot Mess too.

Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell

Kurzgesagt is one of the most fascinating channels on YouTube, and it boasts a cool 13.3 million subscribers (as of November 2020). The channel features beautifully animated videos about scientific topics, many of which are dedicated to the climate crisis. The channel is known for its infamous animated bird that makes frequent appearances in Kurzgesagt videos. I highly recommend checking them out!

YouTube is full of educational videos, and I'm sure there are more channels about climate change that you can watch. We also have a post about the best sources to use when reading about the environment (linked below), and all of those sources have their own YouTube channels.
